RCN Vessel – HMCS Goose Bay
Installation of the vessel mounted – Nanuk Remote Control Weapon System
Job Scope:
AFTI was awarded the contract for the installation of the Nanuk RCWS onboard the HMCS Goose Bay. As the primary contractor, AFTI would utilize several of its service lines including mechanical, welding and fabrication/machining to complete the scope of work as per the provided engineered drawings. AFTI would also manage and coordinate various project specific vendors including; craneage and material movement, marine chemist, non-destructive testing, insulation, electrical and protective coatings application.
The Solution:
For this project, AFTI utilized its accredited welding fabricators and mechanical technicians complete all necessary scope of work. This included machining, fabrication, steel and aluminum welding and mechanical installation of components. The installation involved the replacement of the RCWS pedestal, machining and modifying the foundation flange, mounting new operator console system and associated electrical cables. AFTI also resolved any interference items onboard preventing the installation of the new system.
The Results:
The contract was successfully completed and the provided good and services accepted by the DND; thus, allowing weaponry to be mounted by the OEM on the new RCWS pedestal. Successful operational trials were then conducted by DND, in conjunction with the weaponry OEM.
